Boy Meets World is a coming of age sitcom about the life of Cory Matthews, a teenage boy growing up in a Philadelphia. The series is most oftenly compared to The Wonder Years due to its star, Ben Savage, being the younger brother of Wonder Years star Fred Savage. The series debuted on September 24, 1993, during ABC's TGIF block of primetime television.
The format of the series is typical for sitcoms, but its humor attempts to reach both children and adults. Children find humor in the shows farcical and blatant comedy, while adults tend to find value in its self-reference, attention to continuity and occasional subtle breakage of the fourth wall.
However, the realism built up by the show slowly unraveled as time went on and the show became more and more of a farce. Critics of the show typically point to the moment when the character of Eric Matthews suddenly changed from a fairly serious person to a simple source of comic relief. The series ended after seven seasons on May 5, 2000.
