Archer is an animated comedy series, that airs on FX.
The series was created by Adam Reed and Floyd County Productions. Reed and the crew of Floyd County previously worked on Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo for Adult Swim. While being developed, the show was known as Duchess. The show focuses on Sterling Archer, codename "Duchess", who works as a spy for ISIS (International Secret Intelligence Service). Among the people he works with are his boss and mother Malory Archer, his ex-girlfriend Lana Kane and her current boyfriend Cyril Figgis.
The show was originally set to premiere in October 2009 with 6 episodes, but due to the length of production for each episode, the premiere was pushed to January 2010. However, the first episode aired as a stealth premiere on September 17, 2009, in the place of an It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia rerun. Around the same time, it was announced that FX has ordered four more scripts, which ended up expanding the show's first season to 10 episodes.
